Star Wars vet Harrison Ford, 83, is 'deeply honored' to receive a top award from his peers after making 80 films

Star Wars veteran Harrison Ford will be receiving the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, it was announced on Thursday.

It is the guild's highest honor recognizing career and humanitarian accomplishments.

The 32nd annual The Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, will take place on March 1, 2026 at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

The show will stream live on Netflix.

The 83-year-old Indiana Jones actor is the 61st recipient of the honor, which goes to an actor who exemplifies the 'finest ideals of the acting profession.'

'I am deeply honored to be chosen as this year's recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award,' Ford - who has made over 80 films - said in a statement.

'To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me. I've spent most of my life on film sets, working alongside incredible actors and crews, and I've always felt grateful to be part of this community.'

The SAG-AFTRA honor adds to accolades that include an Oscar Best Actor nomination in 1986 for Witness, and lifetime honors the Critics Choice Career Achievement Award (2024), the Golden Globes Cecil B. DeMille Award (2002) and AFI Life Achievement Award (2000).

'Harrison Ford is a singular presence in American life; an actor whose iconic characters have shaped world culture,' SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin said on Thursday. 

'His career has been endlessly exciting, always returning to his love of acting. We are honored to celebrate a legend whose impact on our craft is indelible.'

Ford used to be a carpenter then starting appearing on TV shows.

He popped up on Gunsmoke, Ironside, The Virginian, The F.B.I., Love, American Style, and Kung Fu.

Then he landed a role in George Lucas' seminal film American Graffiti in 1973.

The film became a cult classic and opened new doors for the star.

The star is seen flaunting his frame in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

He won acclaim for starring opposite Helen Mirren and Michelle Randolph in Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel 1923

Ford stars as Dr. Paul Rhodes, a mental health therapist on Shrinking; seen with Wendie Malick

His wife is Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart; seen in 2015

Next Lucas cast him as the smuggler from another galaxy, Han Solo. He went on to make a total of five Star Wars movies.

Then he made five Indiana Jones movies.

And he had a number of other hits such as Blade Runner, Witness, Working Girl, The Fugitive, Air Force One and the Tom Clancy movies Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger.

His more recent work includes The Call of the Wild and Captain America: Brave New World.

He won acclaim for starring opposite Helen Mirren and Michelle Randolph in Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel 1923.

And Ford is on Shrinking with Jason Segel.

Ford has worked for years on environmental and human rights causes, and is vice-chair of Conservation International and a General Trustee of the Archaeological Institute of America.
